First Cable Railway Bridge in India: India’s first cable rail bridge in Jammu and Kashmir is almost ready. Its construction took almost a year. The bridge is built over the Anji river and will connect Katra and Reasi.

After the commencement of this rail bridge, the Kashmir Valley will be connected to the rest of the country throughout the year. Right now the main road leading to Srinagar gets blocked many times during winters. Traffic remains disrupted for several days due to snowfall. This bridge is an important part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail project. It connects the tunnel T-2 at the Katra end and the tunnel T-3 at the Reasi end.

The Anji river on which this bridge is built is a tributary of Chenab. The bridge is 290 meters towards Katra and 183 meters towards Reasi. There is only one rail line on the bridge. There is also a service lane of 3.75 meters on it. It is expected that the remaining work of this bridge will also be completed in the month of May. It took about 11 months to make it.
