Pakistani media ARY News has reported that the power has tripped after a fault in the high tension (HT) transmission cable. It has been claimed in the report that due to the power supply trip, darkness spread in about half of Karachi. Many grid stations also tripped after a fault in the high tension line.

According to the report, the areas where power supply has stopped include Numais Chowringhee, Sadar, Defense Housing Authority, Lines Area, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Korangi and Punjab Colony. However, no statement has been issued by the Electric regarding the failure of the power supply. K Electric is a private firm that looks after the work of electricity supply in Karachi.

There was a problem in the national grid in January

This is not the first time that power supply has been affected on a large scale in Pakistan. Earlier in January, due to frequency fluctuations in the Pakistan National Grid, supply was stalled in many areas of Karachi including North Nazimabad, New Karachi, North Karachi, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Old City Area, Landhi and many other colonies.
