Earlier, on buying an electric vehicle in Uttar Pradesh, 8 to 10 percent charge had to be paid as registration fee. If an EV is worth Rs 10 lakh, then the buyer had to pay a tax of around Rs 1 lakh. However, now people will be encouraged to buy electric vehicles due to tax exemption.
100% Discount on EVs in UP
Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary L Venkateswara Lu issued a notification. It is written in this, 100 percent tax exemption will be available for electric vehicles purchased and registered in Uttar Pradesh. The date of notification of Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, 2022 is applicable to any electric vehicle (EV) purchased and registered in Uttar Pradesh from 14 October 2022 to 13 October 2025.
UP’s new EV policy
In October last year, the Uttar Pradesh government had announced a new EV policy to promote electric vehicles in the state. In this, concessions like exemption in registration fee, discounted price and subsidy were offered. However, right now only a small number of people are using EVs as personal vehicles. According to TOI, around 8.6 lakh vehicles are registered in Gautam Budh Nagar, out of which 12,500 are electric vehicles.
Dependence on Delhi will be less
Of these, 99 are four-wheelers, 511 are e-carts, 1,604 two-wheelers, 1 bus, 12 motor cabs and most are electric three-wheelers. At the same time, last year Noida Authority has installed 69 EV charging stations at different places in the city. However, people do not use most of these. There is already 100% tax exemption in Delhi, but after getting the same benefit in UP, now the people of NCR will not have to depend on Delhi.
