Current Affairs 2023: Mobile users will no longer receive spam calls and messages. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken an important initiative to provide relief to customers from spam calls. For this, the three major telecom operators working in the country were asked to make all necessary arrangements to stop spam calls by 30 April 2023.

All the three service providers have informed TRAI that all necessary arrangements have been made to get rid of spam calls to the customers. Spam calls will probably not go to any customer from now on. If this happens, it will be only due to technical fault, the possibility of which is negligible. This system has come into force from May 1, 2023.

How did telecom operators stop spam calls?

The three major operators of the country Jio, Airtel and Idea-Vodafone have used Artificial Intelligence tool for this. This tool will identify and block spam calls. All necessary technical arrangements have been made for this. TRAI has made this important announcement only after the assurance received from the companies.

Many years ago also TRAI had started Do Not Disturb service. It worked for a few days and then proved useless. After using the DND service, there was relief for a few days, but later spam calls and messages started coming indiscriminately. Companies claim that the new AI tool will prove to be 90 percent or more effective.

When was TRAI established?

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India was established on 20 February 1997. Its headquarter is in New Delhi. Dr. PD Vaghela is currently the chairman of TRAI. The basic objective of this organization is to protect the interests of telecom users.
