Companies say that to keep 5G technology accessible to the people, the government needs to reduce taxes. Companies have invested crores of dollars for its rapid spread in the country. 5G has not expanded so fast in any country of the world, while there is no clear outline regarding additional earnings in future from this new technology.

Request to make license fee 1%

Association of Telecom Companies Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) says that the license fee should be brought down from 3 percent to 1 percent. Not only this, the 5 percent tax levied under the head ‘Universal Service Obligation’ should be postponed until the Rs 64,774 crore lying in this fund is utilised.

According to the rating agency ICRA, the total debt of the telecom industry is expected to be around Rs 6.3 lakh crore in the financial year 2022-23.
