The Maharashtra government is preparing to buy the famous Air India building at Nariman Point. According to the Times of India report, the state government will develop it as an extension of the ministry. AI Assets Holding Limited is the owner of this building. He has in principle accepted the offer of Rs 1600 crore. The cabinet minister has given him this information. However, the state government has made it clear that it will complete the deal only if the central government vacates all the offices and gives 100 per cent possession.

State Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had met Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia last year and urged him to give priority to the Maharashtra government. Apart from the state government, the Reserve Bank of India or RBI is also in the race to buy the building.

What is the future plan of the government?

According to the report, a senior minister confirmed the deal and told him that AI Assets Holding Limited, which owns the building, has given its in-principle consent. He said that full details will be worked out, but the offer is subject to conditions. He was told that the offices of the GST and Income Tax Department also run from here.

Some floors are owned by the state government owned company and on one floor art collection and other things are present. According to them, they will go ahead with the deal only when they get the possession. They don’t want to hire a new agency to get it vacated, as they are very troublesome.

Terming the government’s efforts to buy the property as correct, the minister had said that if we get the building, we can save the rent the state government is currently paying. Many state government offices are present in offices built in private space. They are located in South Mumbai and are paying huge amount every month.
