In the second AFI National Jump Competition going on in Banihati, Karnataka, on Thursday, March 2, made a new record in Men’s Long Jump. This 21-year-old athlete set this record by jumping 8.42 meters. (Twitter/SAI)
With this, Aldrin broke the record of Commonwealth Games silver medalist star jumper Murali Sreesankar. Sreesankar had made this record in April last year with 8.36 meters in the Federation Cup. (PTI)
In Thursday’s event, Aldrin was the only competitor to clear an eight-metre jump. He jumped 8.05, 8.26 and 8.42 meters. Kerala’s Mohammad Anees Yahiya finished second with a throw of 7.85m. Aldrin had won a silver medal in the Asian Indoor Championship in Astana last month. (Twitter/Jeswin Aldrin)
And in women’s triple jump, Gayatri Shivkumar made a meet record with 12.98 metres. She broke Alina Jose’s meet record of 12.68m in the preliminary round last year. R Puneetha of Tamil Nadu won the silver medal with a jump of 12.39m and Sharwari Parulekar of Maharashtra won the bronze medal with a jump of 12.30m. (Twitter/AFI)
