Mumbai: Mumbai Indians, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, continued their excellent form in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), defeating Gujarat Giants by 55 runs on Tuesday. With this, Mumbai has made it to the playoffs. Mumbai showed its dominance in this match as well and defeated Gujarat unilaterally. Batting first, Mumbai scored 162 runs losing eight wickets. After playing the entire over, the Gujarat team could score only 107 runs losing nine wickets and lost the match. This was the second match of this season between these two teams. Only Mumbai has won in both the matches. The first match of WPL took place only between these two teams.

This is Mumbai’s fifth consecutive win. He has not suffered a single defeat so far. Captain Harmanpreet played a brilliant inning for Mumbai and scored a half-century. He scored 51 runs in 30 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. Opener Yastika Bhatia scored an inning of 44 runs in 37 balls.

Gujarat did not get a good start

Gujarat did not get the kind of start it needed in this match. Sophie Dunkley got out on the very first ball. Siver made him LBW. S Meghna also returned to the pavilion on the second ball of the sixth over. He scored 16 runs. Mathews did not even allow Annabel Sutherland to open an account. On the last ball of the ninth over, Wong gave a big blow to Gujarat by showing Harleen Deol the way to the pavilion. Harleen scored 22 runs in 23 balls with the help of three fours. Gujarat captain Sneh Rana won the toss and elected to bowl first, and Ashleigh Gardner had Hayley Mathews (00) caught by Sophia Dunkley in the covers on the fourth ball of the innings. Bhatia and Nat Siver then took over the team. And shared a 74-run partnership for the second wicket. Yastika caught the rhythm after a slow start. Mumbai scored 40 runs for one wicket in the power play. Siver was lbw on the last ball of the 11th over by Kim Garth. Bhatia also returned to the pavilion on a total score of 84. Yestika got run out due to a misunderstanding with Harmanpreet Kaur.

Harmanpreet and Amelie Kar (19) took the team’s score past 100 runs in the 14th over. Kim ended their 51-run partnership with Harnampreet by taking a brilliant catch of Amelie off Tanuja’s bowling. Sneh gave the fifth blow to Mumbai by taking his own ball catch of Isi Wong (00). Harmanpreet hit Sutherland for two sixes in the 19th over but Humaira Kazi (02) was run out trying to take an unnecessary second run. Harmanpreet completed her half-century in 29 balls with two consecutive fours over Gardner but Harleen Deol hit the next ball. His brilliant catch was caught at the boundary.
