Stampede in Yemen capital: 78 people were killed and dozens were injured due to the stampede in the capital of Yemen. According to the news agency AP, a Houthi official gave this information. According to the Houthi-run Interior Ministry, the stampede happened in Sanaa’s Old City when hundreds of people gathered for an event organized by merchants.

Ministry spokesman Brigadier Abdel-Khaliq Al-Aghari regretted the incident, saying that coordination with local authorities was not done regarding the financial aid distribution program. He said that this program was organized in a wrong way, due to which this accident happened.

Organizers were detained

Dozens of injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. According to the Houthi rebels’ Al-Maseera satellite TV channel, a senior health official in Sanaa, Motaher al-Marouni, said that at least 13 people were seriously injured. The Ministry of Interior said that it has detained two organizers and the matter is under investigation.

Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, is currently occupied by the rebels. Yemen is one of the poorest countries in the Arab countries. In 2014, Yemen’s capital Sanaa was captured by pro-Iranian Houthis. After this the civil war started here.
